Kissaki’s take on the Feast of Seven Fishes is a Japanese presentation of raw fish. Available for delivery on both Christmas Eve and Christmas, several configurations of the “chef’s choice” omakase menu are offered with futomaki (fat rolled sushi), special nigiri, miso soup and edamame. The sushiya’s delicate matcha red bean, blueberry Earl Grey, and vanilla dulce de leche chiffon cakes make a festive dessert option.

East End favorite for their homestyle Greek menu and outdoor gyro truck, Calissa has created a Mediterranean-style dinner for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. You’ll receive mezze plates including chicories with fennel, orange and Ricotta Salata; and burrata with grilled bread. A pasta course of tortellini in brodo and tagliatelle Bolognese precedes an entree of either suckling pig porchetta or grilled Spanish bronzino, both with sides of fingerling potatoes and broccoli.

You can order delivery from popular Manhattan import, T-Bar, for both Christmas and Christmas Eve. Start light with a thin-crust pizza, the restaurant’s famous meatballs, or a Caesar salad. Your second course might be a tiger shrimp cocktail, seared Spanish octopus or the popular yellowfin tuna tartare. For your main, T-Bar goes seafood traditional with Chilean sea bass or a chopped salad with add-on shrimp or salmon. Chicken and steakhouse choices include sweet & sour chicken Milanese, Parmesan-roasted free range chicken, prime aged Angus burger, Filet Mignon, NY strip or porterhouse for two. You’ll likely be craving more than one pie but that’s not a problem –you can sign up for Piedaho’s Pie Club to be treated again and again. Pre-baked and flash-frozen in a vacuum-sealed pouch, these pies spark conversation and comfort.

Daddy Ray’s Famous Gingerbread

A favorite since 1983, shipping from Fort Worth, Texas, Daddy Ray’s Famous Gingerbread Bundt cakes are a thing of beauty. Lovingly baked and decorated by three generations of the Elledge family, the cakes are not only moist and delicious with a perfect balance of ginger and spice, they also add a festive touch to any gathering. For New Year’s, the restaurant’s passionfruit almond cake is paired with a half bottle of Billecart Salmon Brut Rose for a decadent finish to any meal.

Pierre’s

If you happen to be on Long Island, Pierre’s in Bridgehampton offers a sinful array of Bûche de Noël for Christmas. Offered in two sizes, you can choose chocolate made with chocolate mousse and layers of chocolate almond dacquoise, milk chocolate with crunchy French meringue coated with a milk chocolate glaze, or the very French Vosgienne which adds fresh raspberries and whipped cream to layers of chocolate sponge cake. Where to Get Your Christmas Eve and Christmas Meals in the Hamptons

Restaurant and takeout/delivery options in The Hamptons and North Fork of Long Island offer a variety of dining options for this year’s unusual Christmas holiday.

The Halyard

On Christmas Eve, The Halyard at Sound View Greenport will be open for waterfront dining, meals to-go and room service. Reservations are required for seating in the airy dining room overlooking the Long Island Sound. Chef Stephan Bogardus will serve up a seasonal menu with locally sourced produce including Hamptons favorites like New England clam chowder, seared Hudson Valley foie gras and hamachi sashimi, Shinnecock sea scallops and grilled Montauk monkfish. Chef’s Christmas eve special is a decadent white truffle and lobster tagliatelle dish with a 1½ pound lobster (out of the shell), hand-cut pasts and tableside Alba truffles.

Kissaki

Kissaki, the New York City Japanese favorite, is open for delivery from its Water Mill location on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The” chef’s choice” omakase menu takes sushi to a new level with futomaki (fat rolled sushi) and nigiri (individual pieces) creatively designed and topped to enhance and surprise. A variety of sets are available with each including miso soup and edamame as well. The sushiya’s delicate chiffon cakes make a festive dessert option. Choose from matcha red bean with layers of sweetened red bean and matcha whipped cream, blueberry Earl Grey with layers of Earl Grey-infused whipped cream balanced with sweet blueberries, and Kissaki’s signature vanilla dulce de leche with whipped cream and Biscoff cookie crumbles.

Baron’s Cove

Baron’s Cove Chef Nick Vogel has created special culinary event on Christmas weekend from December 24-27. The decked-out Sag Harbor inn is filled with festivity from the climbing Santa Claus’s on the exterior to the cozy lobby with its welcoming fireplace. The weekend stay/dine package of culinary delights features local dishes with Christmas treats. With scheduled meals hosted by Chef Nick, breakfast, lunch and two dinners are included, including an elaborate multi-course Chef’s Table dinner using ingredients from the restaurant’s farm and artisan partnerships across the East End. Menus are subject to whatever is “of the moment, “ designed to ensure a distinctive experience that reflects both chef proclivities and the bounty of the Hamptons rich location.

Main Street Tavern

For a more casual experience, Main Street Tavern in Amagansett invites guests to reserve Christmas Eve at the new restaurant. For Christmas Day itself, you can order the tavern’s “oven ready” meals, food and drink pairings, and new desserts are available for pickup any day including their popular Shepherd’s Pie, ribs and wings, lasagna and pastas. For the holidays, they have introduced new desserts to their already robust menu with lemon and chocolate tarts, carrot cake, apple crumble, sticky toffee pudding and ice cream pints. The restaurant is open for dining on Christmas Eve if you don’t feel like “cooking.”

Topping Rose House

At Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton, Christmas diners will enjoy a luxurious three-course feast from Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Choose from six appetizers on the prix fixe menu including Jean-Georges’ signature tuna tartare with avocado, spicy radish and ginger dressing or his acclaimed crispy salmon sushi served with chipotle mayonnaise and soy glaze. A choice of entree takes advantage of the inn’s prime location near the ocean and farms, offering roasted black sea bass, parmesan-crusted organic chicken and vegetarian roasted cauliflower with cous cous and turmeric tahini sauce. Dessert is Chef’s signature Buche de Noel, a chocolatey confection served only on Christmas. If you don’t like chocolate, you’ll have other choices, too.

The 1770 House Restaurant & Inn

The 1770 House Restaurant & Inn in East Hampton has created a holiday feast for home celebration. Order by December 19 for pickup on December 23 or 24. Designed for four-six people, entrees and sides are ready-to-cook and come with preparation instructions. The traditional meal includes a choice of beef tenderloin roast, Berkshires pork rib roast, leg of Australian lamb or Long Island dark as mains. All include root vegetable gratin, creamed spinach, truffled pasta cacio e pepe and French green beans. The dessert choices are Hamptons all the way – either Tate’s chocolate chip pie or 1170 House sticky toffee date cake. And everyone gets caramel popcorn.

Elegant Affairs

Elegant Affairs can create a very personalized Christmas dinner with more than 56 appetizers, entrees, sides and desserts, all for delivery for parties of 3-4 or 8-10 on December 23 and 24. Possibilities include giving your holiday feast an Italian theme with baked clams oreganata and fennel sausage Stromboli loaf . Then switch to something more traditional with bourbon-glazed ham or whole roasted turkey, or stay Italian with shrimp scampi or Nona’s meatballs marinara. Add cranberry citrus compote and creamy Long Island corn pudding for regional flair. Elegant Affairs’ desserts will be the highlight with their beyond adorable Santa hat cupcakes, cheesecake lollipops, or Santa cake.

Get Art Smart in Philadelphia

Philadelphia invites you to explore the city as you take in some of the city’s most creative and beloved art landmarks. A welcome change to counter Zoom and virtual reality tours, artists and organizations have found new ways to move you out of your home and onto the streets (or into the air) to view their beautiful creations. Before you start complaining that it’s too cold outside, take a walk to see these wonderful arts both on land and in the sky.

With the Museums Without Walls AUDIO tour of public art throughout Philadelphia, sponsored by the Association for Public Art, you use your smartphone to wander the city as you learn about the more than 75 sculptures on the streets. Just as you might do with an audio tour inside the Philadelphia Museum of Art or the Barnes Foundation, this tour lets you tune in on your own… but outside. Narration is by a variety of people from all walks of life, each person explaining the story behind the artwork and their personal connection to it.

A sample meander might be to start at the famous LOVE Sculpture near City Hall in LOVE Park. Designed in 1976 by Robert Indiana, LOVE is a massive four-letter red piece, with an iconic tilting O and clashing green interior and blue-sky exterior. The sculpture is part of Indiana’s LOVE Project that incorporates more than just sculptures. Starting with a poem some 20 years before the Philadelphia installation, Indiana also gave birth to LOVE sculptures around the world, translated into many languages. A second sculpture, AMOR, recognizes the Hispanic population in Philadelphia and is located a short walk from LOVE Park in Sister Cities Park.

A fun stop on the tour is a Fairhill Square visit to view Rafael Ferrer’s El Gran Teatro de la Luna. Repainted and reinstalled after a 14-year absence, the sculpture evokes a range of emotions with the colorful acrobats and performers moving blissfully yet frenetically. The action-filled tableau is set atop a pergola framing an outdoor stage in the park and is a source of pride to nearby residents, many of whom feel a connection to the artist’s Caribbean upbringing.

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

If your sojourn takes you near South Street, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens are a true surprise. You might think you’ve landed in Gaudi-crazy Barcelona. But, instead, this garden, completely covered by mosaics made of glass, mirrors, bicycle wheels, bottles and tiles started off as an effort to beautify the walls, buildings and vacant lots of South Street by artist Isaiah Zagar. When developers threatened to dismantle Zagar’s “artworks,” residents fought back. As a result, the space remains to this day as a non-profit organization, allowing Zagar to continue to excavate and create, and is visited by those “in the know.” Choose to spend some socially distanced time in the indoor galleries, or just stay outdoors in the enchanting magic garden. Please note that the gardens are closed until April, but this is a don’t miss, so plan to go when the weather warms up.

An Art Stroll in Boston

Boston’s many historical markers and statues, the Freedom Trail, and the beautiful park system with its fountains, ponds and gardens are all familiar to locals and visitors. But the city also profits from the many educational institutions and creative residents who gravitate to the Greater Boston area, with opportunities for art explorations both in Beantown proper and outside of the city.

Downtown is a wonderful starting point for an art stroll with both permanent and changing exhibits designed to keep you stimulated and curious, and outdoors.

Robert McCloskey’s beloved children’s book, “Make Way for Ducklings” is honored in the Boston Public Garden with a family-favorite sculpture of Mrs. Mallard with her eight ducklings created by sculptress Nancy Schon. Celebrating 33 years as a fixture in the park, the bronze ducks inspire on-site birthday parties not only for the visitors but also for the ducks themselves. Today, the ducklings sport masks, encouraging visitors to maintain social distancing and wear their face coverings.

Rose Kennedy Greenway - Wind Sculpture

Cross the street from the Public Garden, strolling through the Boston Common towards Government Center and Faneuil Hall, and you will reach one of the prides of the Boston Big Dig construction project. By removing the John Fitzgerald Kennedy expressway, two areas of the city that were previously disconnected were brought together and beautified with gardens, flowers and art paralleling the waterfront. Named the Rose Kennedy Greenway, this mile-long area connects Chinatown, the Financial District, the Waterfront and the North End.  Since its opening in 2008, the curvilinear park has hosted a changing gallery of themed public art and light installations ranging from pigs celebrating the Year of the Pig, to historic neon signs from Massachusetts and the permanent Harbor Fog water feature sculpture. The Greenway, as its known, welcomes artists to submit their ideas for installations and the rotating gallery of murals.

HarborArts - Liz LaManche

Across the Harbor towards Logan Airport, Boston HarborArts has been welcoming visitors to their outdoor shipyard-turned-gallery for more than a decade.  Located at the Boston Harbor Shipyard & Marine in East Boston, the outdoor art park sits in Jeffries Point across from the Seaport. The “museum” is 100% outdoors and free of charge. Featuring local and international artists, the outdoor gallery is a rotating art gallery covering 14 acres. A bonus: as you meander through the gritty industrial area, along the Boston HarborWalk, you’ll have many instagrammable moments of both the art and the city skyline across the harbor.

Walking around the Seaport itself affords many opportunities to see public art. Winter and spring are prime times for major installations but art peppers the area year-round. Walk along the waterfront by landmark boats and new restaurants, with a view of the burgeoning Fort Point neighborhood in the background, and you’ll see many thought-provoking sculptures.  The changing collection has included interactive and kinetic pieces as well as statues from local as well as international artists.,

North of Boston Mural Map - Cat Witch

The North of Boston Mural Map leads you on a colorful voyage through the Greater Boston towns up the coast and inland. With no crowds to distract you indoors, this is a perfect social distancing way to absorb some local color and culture. On more than 100 murals, local topics like witchcraft in Salem are given a distinctive spin with the “Cat Witch” mural by Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel, a Boston favorite known for his multi-colored geometric sculptures in the Seaport.  Other murals with more global themes of poetry and love grace buildings in 14 towns from Saugus to Salisbury.

deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum - HOMEWRECKER

For another art-filled trip from Boston, drive west to the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln. The park is open with controlled attendance and viewing to effect social distancing. Timed passes can be purchased online. A visit typically takes two hours and no touching of the sculptures is allowed. A favorite among visitors are the three colorful sculptures by Aaron Curry located on the front lawn. Reminiscent of Alexander Calder works, these very contemporary pieces also allude to science fiction, cartoons and stagecraft. UGLY MESS seems to be a sad person with two large tears dripping from its cutout eyes. In the second, HOMEWRECKER, a similar character embraces a bright red creature. The third, BLUBAT, looks like a children’s drawing of a person, but with wings hanging from its arms.

Using their 4000-square-foot outdoor yard, they have created a dining and drinking space that guarantees social distancing. Blankets can be rented, if you’re still feeling chilly, for a mere $5, and the blankets are washed, sanitized and vacuumed sealed after each use. Or bring your own. There’s also a fire pit if you prefer to sit in the great outdoors instead to enjoy Texan, Persian and Mexican-inspired dishes and warm cocktails like the new Apple Sauced and Break the Mulled. The bar/restaurant also offers one of the rare socially distanced entertainment options for you during the pandemic – they have a full event calendar with the likes of trivia and movie nights, all free.

There you’ll enjoy hearty stick-to-your-ribs comfort food including game meats and fondue, paired with a wonderful Austrian wine list.  Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket, just to be sure. A piping hot Glühwein will add extra warmth. If you can’t fly to Austria this season, this just might be the next best thing.

Transporting you to Italy, new Carnegie Hill Vicolina has created an Italian garden in an enclosed box. Draped with flowers and grapes and reminiscent of a vineyard, the box is inviting and elegant. The evening is luxe and perfect for enjoying the restaurant’s extensive menu and wine list.  Be forewarned, portions are huge. The delicious chicken parmigiana is easily shared by two.
